What's your full embarrassing name? |
Wayne Anthony Ewens |
Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle? |
Married Man! Married Vicky 9th August 2008. |
Where do you live? |
Lowford Near Bursledon |
Do you work or stay at home? |
Work-Sadly. Wish I could devote full time to training. |
How long have you been a member at Stubbington? |
Since October 2009 |
Can you remember your first race? |
Great South Run 1994, after a night out in Martines, Eastleigh. In at 3am and very hung over on the start line. Did not feel good for that race but made it round in 1 hour 15. All be it in a bit of a dehydrated, pale and unattractive state by race end. Never again. Booze and racing does not mix. |
How often do you bother to go training? |
Most days I will do some form of training. Usually run 3 x per week and ride the same. Also throw in some power based work (hopping/jumping etc) and core strength every few days. |
What is your favourite training run? |
A brick run after a session on the bike. Always feel like I’m flying. |
What was your best ever race? |
Has to be completing the Ironman triathlon in 2009 just for the elation running down the finish chute. |
And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? |
My worst race has to be when my goggle strap broke on the start line of an Olympic distance triathlon whilst treading water in a lake. They could not be fixed and not many spare pairs floating around the water. Not the most comfortable mile swim for me that day. I can see why the pros train without goggles to cover such occurrences. |
Do you have a pre-race ritual? |
Usually get up far too early and eat pancakes or porridge, depending on race type and distance. Whichever I eat has salt and sugar on and never tastes too pleasant. |
What is the best piece of gear you have bought? |
My Garmin earlier in 2010. Amazing piece of kit for improving training quality, logs and ultimately race performance. |
Worst piece of gear? |
None. I keep it simple. Shorts/Vests. T-shirt if cold and trainers. |
Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? |
Do you really need to ask? I’d rather cut off my own fingers than watch Enders. Apart from that I’m easily motivated, competitive and always keen to achieve more in terms of races, times and challenges. Sitting watching TV does not challenge me. |
What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? |
Spectates most of the events I compete in and is even dabbling in a bit of her own running now, Completing Great South Run this year and a few Park Runs. |
What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner? |
Join Stubbies! Defo need a running club to improve and enjoy all aspects of running! |
