What's your full embarrassing name? |
Samuel Jonathan Ratzer |
Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle? |
Single, always on the lookout though. |
Where do you live? |
My family home in Lee-on-Solent however will be moving to Guildford in September ’09 when I go to University |
Do you work or stay at home? |
From September 2009 I’ll be a student studying Spanish at Surrey Uni. |
How long have you been a member at Stubbington? |
Since January ’09, after a few trial sessions in Summer ‘08, in my mind a great decision. |
Can you remember your first race? |
The Lee Tennis Club 4 mile Airfield Run 2004, ran all the way with my best friend who then outsprinted me to the line for 23rd place; revenge was gained two years later when I dug deep to win, while he trailed. For SGR&AC it was the 2009 Stubbington 10k. |
How often do you bother to go training? |
I run between 1&3 times a week (more often 1 than 3), though I lead an active life which offsets those short comings. |
What is your favourite training run? |
No particular run although the Thursday night speed session in Stubbington is always a good session. |
What was your best ever race? |
The 3rd race of the Promenade 5k series ’08; set out fast like always and from somewhere found the resolve to hold on to set a PB and secure the junior series. |
And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? |
Self-inflicted pain at both this year’s Stubbie 10k and 1st Promenade 5k; first kms run with Le Gass firmly within my sights then reality (and Lactic acid) set in leading to struggles over the line. |
Do you have a pre-race ritual? |
No firm ritual, no doubt these will develop. |
What is the best piece of gear you have bought? |
A decent pair of running shoes (Tim Crumpton’s advice has really paid dividends, I was previously running in worn-out cross trainers that were absorbing no shock whatsoever) |
Worst piece of gear? |
Yet to find out. |
Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? |
It’s for dilemmas like this that omnibuses, BBC3 and BBCiPlayer were invented. Running does often though provide dramas all of its own, so much so I don’t really watch that much telly anymore. |
What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? |
No missus but, work colleagues think I’m mad but are ultimately supportive. Mum provides the carbs and kit wash for which I’m grateful. At the end of the day it should be about what you want to do. It’s good that most of the people around me don’t know too much about running so I can tell them anything about what I’ve done and they are impressed whether good or bad. |
