What's your full embarrassing name? |
Mark Christopher Le Gassick. |
| Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle? | Single but on the lookout for a woman who can meet my stringent criteria. |
| Where do you live? | Stubbington. |
| Do you work or stay at home? | I work (occasionally). |
| How long have you been a member at Stubbington? | Since 27 October 2002. |
| Can you remember your first race? | Gosport Half Marathon, 2002. I got very bad blisters from wearing worn out running shoes and previously I had never run more than 10 miles in my life! |
| How often do you bother to go training? |
Running three to four times a week, swimming once or twice a week, cycling once a week, gym twice a week. |
| What is your favourite training run? | Chilling Cliffs and the 2x2 mile training run. |
| What was your best ever race? | Stubbington 10k 2005 because it was my first time under 33 minutes........plus I finished in front of a couple of also rans....what were their names now? It was the bald one who runs like a chicken.....no, not Smeagle.....although now that you mention it.....it was Alan someone I think? And the other one was the guy who left Rainbow to take up running.....no not Bungle....the gay, pink hippo's mouthy sparring partner....oh, what was his name now? Anyway, to tell the truth, the pair were so far behind, I can't really remember who the hell they were! |
| And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? | Wessex XC, Newbury 2002 - I missed the finish and ran an extra lap! |
| Do you have a pre-race ritual? | Porridge and honey - if it's good enough for Paula it's good enough for me! |
| What is the best piece of gear you have bought? | Elastic laces, as I found out to my cost they save a lot of heartache when racing. |
| Worst piece of gear? | 1,000 Mile Blister-Free socks - they gave me blisters! |
| Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? | I would rather be hung upside down from a rusty nail by the family jewels than waste time watching soaps! So, running is a slightly less painless alternative. |
| What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? | My mum says, "You want to try digging the garden seeing as you've got so much spare energy!" |
| What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner? | Go to a specialist running shop to ensure that you buy shoes that fit and are suitable for your running style. Also, start slowly and build distance and speed gradually over several weeks and months. And, finally, don't ask Andy Simpson for advice, unless, of course, you want to run a 10 mile pb in the middle of a 20-mile race! |
