Lucy Simmons

Lucy Simmons

What's your full embarrassing name?

Lucinda Jane Simmons.

Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle?

I am with a guy called Mark.

Where do you live?

Fareham.

Do you work or stay at home?

I work as a doctor in Older Peoples Mental Health and occasionally I work as a GP. I recently finished my training in Stubbington.

How long have you been a member at Stubbington?

I joined after the Stubbington 10km race in 2006.

Can you remember your first race?

Yes- it was the Plymouth half marathon in 1997. I was camping the night before, had had too much to drink, and ran it in my rowing lycra! Not great!

How often do you bother to go training?

I use to run 5-6 times a week. Now I am for running 3 times a week with plenty of cross training; swimming, gym, cycling, yoga and pilates. I do something most days.

What is your favourite training run?

I love to take a map, go off road and explore somewhere new.

What was your best ever race?

It has to be the South Downs Relay race 2008. It was brilliant training for it as well as competing.

And what was your worst or most embarrassing race?

Well, it must be the Cranleigh 21 in 2007. Why did nobody tell me the clocks were going forward?!?

Do you have a pre-race ritual?

Not especially, but I do get quite nervous before any race.

What is the best piece of gear you have bought?

Garmin GPS watch. It is great for pacing yourself in a race, especially if you are chasing a PB.

Worst piece of gear?

I can't think of anything.

Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders?

I just love running.

What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running?

Mark has been very tolerant and has spent hours listening to me go on about running or, rather, lack of running! He is encouraging and tries to keep me optimistic!

What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner?

Listen to your body and don’t ignore an injury!
