Stubbington Green Runners & AC

John Rawlins

What's your full embarrassing name?  John Charles Rawlins
Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle?  Young, free and single, and I have done a bit too much mingling recently!
Where do you live?  Mortlake, London.
Do you work or stay at home?  I work at St George's Hospital in Tooting as a trainee cardiologist.
How long have you been a member at Stubbington? Since the age of 14 (I think) – about 13 years
Can you remember your first race?  Stubbington Green 10km aged 16 or 17 - 45 mins dead.
How often do you bother to go training?  I try to run at least 3 to 4 times per week. Plus cycling and swimming – so that's about 13-14 hours a week.
What is your favourite training run?  Around Richmond Park, or along the cliffs if I am at home.
What was your best ever race?  Henley Half Marathon 2006 – cause I won!
And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? Worst race – World triathlon championships. Biggest race of my life, and I felt rubbish from start to finish.
Do you have a pre-race ritual?  Eminem before big races, and a bit of fruit cake!
What is the best piece of gear you have bought? New cycling top from Gore last week. Brilliant!. Does three things at once.
Worst piece of gear?  Any running waterproof. Have tried a few – a waste of time!
Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders?  Cause I get depressed with EastEnders. Plus the feeling of moving well, under your own steam, across beautiful countryside. Best thing in the world.
What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running?  N/A – see column 2.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner?  Take it steady – mix hard runs with easy runs to recover. Keep your own goals and stick to them!
