|

Guardamar del Segura on the Costa Blanca in Spain |

Five days a week |
| What is your favourite training run? |
In Spain it would be a run round the trails surrounding the lake in a nature reserve close to where I live. In England, it would be anywhere on or around the South Downs.
|
| What was your best ever race? |
The Great South Run in 1996 where I just failed by 40 seconds to break the hour but made a big impact on my personal best |
| And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? |
My worst was the Mitcham 25k in 2000 which was the only race in 20 years in which I have a DNFagainst my name. It was a three lap race over the most soul-destroying course I have ever run on and I dropped out after two laps not wishing to endure another lap. My most embarrassing run was at a pre-entered 10k race in San Francisco in June which turned out to be a Gay Pride race. |
| Do you have a pre-race ritual? |
Eat breakfast three hours before, turn up an hour before the race, warm up then visit the loo. |
| What is the best piece of gear you have bought? |
Saucony Grid Approach Trail Shoes which were ideal for multi terrain runs. |
| Worst piece of gear? |
1000 mile socks (they lasted about 400) |
| Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? |
As we are an hour ahead of UK time, EastEnders is on an hour later - so I can do both! |
| What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? |
Don't know - haven't seen her for over 20 years. |
| What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner? |
Whenever possible try to run off road. It is kinder to your joints, has better scenery and no traffic fumes! |
