Stubbington Green Runners & AC

Jane Thomson

What's your full embarrassing name?  Jane Susan Thomson (not too bad??)
Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle?  Getting married in April next year
Where do you live?  In Fareham
Do you work or stay at home?  I work as an Human Resources manager for a Logistics company in Hedge End.
How long have you been a member at Stubbington? Since October 2003
Can you remember your first race?  The Great South Run in 2001. It took me nearly 2 hours to finish, but it was before I joined SGRAC and I had no idea about training. I couldn’t walk the next day!
How often do you bother to go training?  2 – 3 times a week, more if I can find the time.
What is your favourite training run?  Titchfield Haven and along the cliffs. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, the scenery is always fabulous.
What was your best ever race?  Has to be the London Marathon 2005. The atmosphere was incredible, I loved every minute of it, and my time wasn’t bad either!
And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? Can’t think of one, apart from the Hayling Billy 2005. I really struggled. It was so windy and it felt like I was battling to stay upright! I think it was just me having a bad day as no-one else complained!!
Do you have a pre-race ritual?  Not really. I make sure my MP3 player is working and I get to the start on time. Pretty basic really!
What is the best piece of gear you have bought? Lightweight Gortex running jacket. It keeps the wind and the rain off, and it doesn’t make me too hot.
Worst piece of gear?  Brooks trainers. They gave me awful blisters and I had to tape my feet everytime I went out for a run; it cost a lot in plasters!
Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders?  I can’t stand soaps, so I would much rather be out running!
What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running?  Sometimes he comes with me, but he can’t quite get as excited about it as I do!
What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner?  Build up slowly and have a goal to train for.
