| What's your full embarrassing name? |
David John Abrams …and called too many embarrassing names to list! |
| Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle? |
Happily married for over forty years. Hope my wife says the same! |
| Where do you live? |
Hill Head |
| Do you work or stay at home? |
Thankfully, retired. Best thing I ever did. |
| How long have you been a member at Stubbington? |
Two years |
| Can you remember your first race? |
Not really, but the entry fee was in old money. |
| How often do you bother to go training? |
Three or four runs a week, and bikes and swims, too. |
| What is your favourite training run? |
Along the cliffs at Meon Shore |
| What was your best ever race? |
I’m still waiting for it! |
| And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? |
Ditto! |
| Do you have a pre-race ritual? |
Yes – involving rotation of ankle joint, knee joint and hip joints. The hip rotations and thrusts give some people a fright in the start pack. |
| What is the best piece of gear you have bought? |
Have to be my new TT bike. |
| Worst piece of gear? |
Those stretchy laces with bumps in – I just can’t get them set right. |
| Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? |
Running is never that painful! |
| What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? |
That my arms are too low, and not flexed enough. (…though in fairness, they don’t drag on the ground as much as she implies! |
| What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner? |
Just get out and do it – preferably with a training buddy or group, and preferably with your other half. Buying new kit is not such a problem then! |
