Stubbington Green Runners & AC

Andy Simpson

What's your full embarrassing name? Andrew John Simpson
Married, or are you young, free and single and like to mingle? Married.
Where do you live? Titchfield Common.
Do you work or stay at home? I have the envious job of working with chocolate every day!!
How long have you been a member at Stubbington? 3 years.
Can you remember your first race? The first race was when I was at the tender age of 8 and my mum had promised to buy me the trend school jumper, if I came in the top 3. She thought I wouldn't beat the guys who were two years old than me! I finished third and I wore my jumper with pride
How often do you bother to go training? Not enough these days due to family committments and work, so put me down for 3 times a week.
What is your favourite training run? Time trial, Brownwich loop and the rollers, are all favs due to them being demanding sessions.
What was your best ever race? Hampshire Road Race League: Bramley 20m in 2004. I set a pb for 10 miles (over 1 minute) and a pb for 20, but it was my first 20-miler. The last few miles were sheer agony.
And what was your worst or most embarrassing race? London Marathon 2001 - too many unscheduled pitstops say no more!!
Do you have a pre-race ritual? Pasta or steak and chips the night before with a couple of drinks. On race day, eat a meal 3 hours before a race, followed by 100g of dark chocolate.
What is the best piece of gear you have bought? View From running jacket
Worst piece of gear? Running tights, too restrictive.
Why do you run when you could be sat at home watching EastEnders? Can always tape EastEnders!! To keep the beer belly down, stay fit, and use as stress and anger management.
What does she/he who must be obeyed think about your running? Run too much, especially during the cross-country season. If you can't beat them join and she joined the club to keep fit!
What is the one piece of advice you would give to any new runner? Set yourself a goal, achieve it and then set yourself another one. Cross-country races are fun, for all abilities and great for stamina-building.
