ANNUAL Xmas Walk  - Tuesday 27th December
Many of you will be aware that for the last 2 years I've organised a Xmas walk for members, family & friends. We will be meeting at the Solent Hotel at 10.30 and stop at the Horse & Jockey. The walk will be 6 miles. Perhaps you could let me know if you are considering coming so that I can warn the pub of approximate numbers. Contact me at caroline.street@ntlworld.com if you are interested.
Xmas Walk
HASH Run - Wednesday 28th December
Having joined Portsmouth Hash House Harriers events several times this year, it's now our turn to organise a hash. Julie Bowden and I have planned a route from the Golden Bowler, Stubbington. It will start at 3pm (meet at 2.45 for instructions) and the main route will be around 5.5 miles. Why not introduce yourself to Hash running? If you intend to go into the pub afterwards then you may wish to bring a spare pair of shoes as we will be doing some off-road. A torch also would also be useful for finding the route as it will be dark by the time you've followed the route and reached the pub. Instructions will be given at the start. As with all hash runs - we'll be drinking at the end at the Golden Bowler, if you wish. Please contact me at caroline.street@ntlworld.com if you are interested or want more information.
The attached picture is from the midsummer Xmas hash!! Hashes are really good fun ... and a bit mad (probably why I like them!) - there is no theme for our hash on 28th so normal running gear will be fine.

Movember Mile - 26th November 10:30am
Next Saturday (26th November), Eastleigh parkrun are holding the parkrun as normal (at 9 AM) but then following it with a special fun event; a Movember Mile! The event will be a 1 mile run held from 10:30am. We hope that this will give runners chance to recover from the 5km parkrun. To take part in the Movember Mile, you need to be wearing a moustache! Ideally, this needs to be your own. However, we fully appreciated that some of you aren’t able to grow your own and therefore wearing a false ‘tash is acceptable. Our only condition is that you have to cross the finish line with you ‘Mo’ in place (between your nostrils and top lip!) A donation bucket will be available for any loose change.
Don’t forget to register with Eastleigh parkrun (it’s free and fun) http://www.parkrun.org.uk/eastleigh/home

My name is Jessica and I work for Refuge which is the country’s leading single provider of emergency accommodation and specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic violence. Every day we support over 1.600 women and children. One of the ways we do this is to generate money through our running events such as the London and Brighton Marathons. We are currently recruiting runners and I was wondering if your running members would like to join Refuge runners and take part in this event! At Refuge, our runners are very important to us as they make up a vital part of our fundraising. We do everything we can to support runners every step of the way. We offer a free Refuge t shirt or professional running vest, a training plan, a full running pack containing training, nutrition and fundraising advice, a free online fundraising page. Furthermore, our London Marathon runners are offered a training event with a running expert in the run up to the event, a pre-race meet up and a post-race reception complete with showers, massage and refreshments. We have a relatively small running team so we really are able to offer one-to-one support – as one of our 2011 runners said: “I thought Refuge were amazing in their support and guidance. I really felt a valued part of the team”.
Please get in contact jessica_madeley@refuge.org.uk if you want to take part or if you have found someone who can run for Refuge! With best wishes, Jessica

THE next race in the RR10 series takes place at Longdown Inclosure, Ashurst on May 4th starting at 7.15pm. Parking for the race will be at the New Forest Wildlife Park (formerly known as the Otter and Owl Sanctuary) which can be reached by taking the A35 towards Ashurst from the Totton bypass. Turn left into Deerleap Lane at the top of the hill and follow this for approximately 1.5 miles. The entrance to the park will be found on the left.
The debrief location will be at the Happy Cheese at Ashurst. Past experience has shown that this location has been rife with bugs and insects etc in previous races so it is recommended that runners come prepared with insect repellents just in case.

SOME of you may know that I was fortunate enough to get a club place for the London Marathon. I have decided to use the opportunity to raise funds for Coeliac UK, which is a charity that supports people that require a gluten free diet. Ann has been living with coeliac disease for over 8 years now and this is the reason I have chosen this charity. I have set myself a target of £500 and I would really appreciate any support you can offer in helping me achieve this. Any donation small or large all counts to making life easier for those that have been diagnosed with coeliac disease. I have a justgiving page which can be found here. http://www.justgiving.com/John-Blake0 Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease and often goes undiagnosed, if it is not managed it can lead to many complications including bowel cancer. Managing the disease may seem fairly straight forward by avoiding gluten, however this is difficult when manufacturers do not always clearly label their food products and gluten can appear in food items you would not expect. Restaurants do not always cater for gluten free diets and sometimes when they do, the staff are not aware of the implications of cross contamination. This can make avoiding gluten very difficult and eating out stressful. Thanks John Blake.
WISHING Mike White a speedy recovery after his bike accident. Get well soon Mike :)
