A RECORD number of runners are expected to take to the streets of Stubbington next week for the annual Stubbington 10k road race.

The event, which is organised by Stubbington Green Runners & AC, takes place on Sunday, January 15th, attracting around 1,400 runners and which is going to cause major traffic disruption in Stubbington and Titchfield on the morning of the race.

Stubbington square, which provides the finish of the race, will be sealed off from 8.30am on the 15th until about 1pm.

The biggest disruption, however, will be along the B3334 Titchfield Road. This will be shut between 9.30am and 10.30am from the Red Lion roundabout  in Stubbington along a two-mile stretch to the Titchfield gyratory on the A27.

Roads around Titchfield and towards Hill Head will also be shut during the course of the race as part of a series of rolling road closures.

Roads will be closed at the following times:

Titchfield Road: 9.30am-10.30am.

Bridge Street/Coach Hill: 9.45am-10.30am.

Posbrook Lane/Triangle Lane/Meon Road: 9.45am-11am.

Meon Foreshore/Cliff Road: 9.45am-11.15am.

Stubbington Lane North (between Bells Lane and the Red Lion Roundabout): 9.30am-11.30am.

Stubbington Green: 8.30am-1pm.

Race director, Gary Littlecott, explained that diversions will be in place, and residential traffic will have limited access at the discretion of the race marshalls. He said: “We’ve got a very good relationship with local residents who are warned in advance of the disruption. We’re very grateful once again for the tolerance and patience of residents and motorists on the day.”

The Stubbington 10k is one of the largest 10km running events on the south coast, forming part of the Hampshire Road Race League. The race is now in its 26th year attracting club runners and fun runners from all over the south-east, many of whom target the race as part of their training and keep fit programmes.

Editor’s note: The race starts at 10am on Sunday, January 15th. The race headquarters is based at Crofton Community Centre in Stubbington.
