Stubbington Green Runners

6500 frozen runners were kept waiting for 10 minutes as the start was delayed while Katie Price parked her car. This was the rumour but it could have been any of a number of minor celebs who took part in the Silverstone Half Marathon on Sunday 6th March that we had to wait for.

The main competition however,  was between Gill Rose and her brother Mike who were competing against each other for the first time. With bets being placed between other family members the tension was high. The smart money was on Gill who had age and experience on her side and she pulled away from him straight from the start.

Running around a motor racing circuit three times sounds boring but in fact was better than we had expected, each lap was completely different taking in the airfield in the middle and the spectator areas around the perimeter.

The only negative thing was the track being about 40m wide, the course having lots of bends and 6500 runners meant it was impossible to take the shortest route round the course, consequently we all clocked 300 – 400m further than half marathon distance.

Gill managed to keep in front of her brother all the way and clocked a decent  PB, Mike wasn’t that far behind and was pleased with his time.
