Stubbington Green Runners

It was a perfect summers evening that greeted the 36 Stubby runners and around a dozen supporters as they arrived for the 9th and penultimate race of the season held at Itchen Valley Country Park on Wednesday 3rd August. The sun was shining and the course was dry which made for very pleasant running conditions. 

 

In the men's race Andy led the way for the Stubbies crossing the line in 18th place to maintain his consistency of top 20 finishes. He was joined in the 'A' team by Graham B (38th), Euan (48th) and Tim S (62nd). There was then a battle between Graham J and Tim C for the final scoring place with Graham just edging it by one place. All these efforts left the team in 10th place on the night which was enough to retain their hold on 6th place over the series.

 

In the ladies section Susie was the first Stubbie home in 10th place just about maintaining her record of continuous top ten places. She was well supported by Sally who was next across the line in 14th whilst Kate was just four places further back and these three completed the 'A' team resulting in a 4th place finish on the night. As a consequence of this fine result they managed to move up a place to fifth overall and with just three points separating them from Eastleigh in fourth a good result in the last race could see the Stubbettes move them.

 

The final race of the series will take place on Wednesday 17th August at IBM Hursley Park once again starting at the earlier time of 7.15. As this is the last race let's try for a good turnout and end the season in style. Once again there will be a venue for the final debrief and I am proposing that this take place at the Dolphin Inn on Main Road, Hursley.
