Stubbington Green Runners

Another race in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and this time I didn't get lost!

Lewy and Laura

It was an early start driving from where we live in La Romana. We left at 4am to make the 6.30am swim start at Punta Cana Beach.....so yep you guessed it, it was a triathlon! I however decided not to venture into multi discipline training just yet and entered with a team. It was a great event, a hot hot hot day and I was buzzing come the finish.

We were 1st place coming out of the water with Danillo, but we fell back to 7th after the cycle....Humberto had to borrow a friends' bike the day before and said the seat was not at the correct height! Dominicans are not well known for their organisation!

The overall winner of the Half Iron Man completed in just over 4hours and this was in blistering heat! I am pleased to say my Boston Marathon training is already paying off as I recorded the fastest Half Marathon run. I completed in a little over 77minutes which got us back to 3rd place in the overall standings and 2nd place team. It was nice overtaking a few people on the run and it was a much happier experience than back in March when a marshal failed to tell me to turn round and left me running straight for a further 4km's...

Using this race as a platform, my next event is another Triathlon in December (but again as a team).....I'll leave the swimming and cycling for when I get older! For now I am enjoying the running in the warm climate and very much excited about my Xmas travels around California with a Half Marathon set for January 7th. This will hopefully be the event where I go under 75minutes......and then leads to a Marathon PB in Boston.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, it truly was a beautiful setting for a race, but I wouldn't recommend running in 30degree too often!

Thanks, Lewis
