Hash House Harriers
Have you heard of Hash runs? Although you may answer "yes" you may not actually much idea of what it's all about. That was certainly my situation until I bumped into a local group while out on a cycle ride one day near Alresford a couple of months ago. The following Monday they were holding a hash from Whiteley. Julie Ashman and I went along and had a great evening.
The group were really welcoming and keen for us to bring along more people. The route is marked by symbols made of flour. It's suitable for all running abilities because the participants need to determine which route is the correct one to follow. Generally the faster runners are, naturally, at the head of the field; while they try to hunt out the correct route the slower runners have time to catch up with the main group. I recently did an event from The Wheatsheaf, Titchfield and was really surprised to find a few footpaths I didn't know existed!! Now that the lighter evenings are here maybe you might be interested in trying a session.
There is no charge for your first event and there are no membership fees. All they ask is a £1 payment at any events you go to after your initial visit.
The Portsmouth group have the following events planned:
The Bold Forester, Sarisbury Monday April 18th 19:00
The Pembroke, Southsea Sunday May 1st 11:00 start
The Vine Hambledon, Monday May 16th 19:00
I hope to get to the Monday sessions. If you may be interested or want more information then please contact me on 01329-845330 or email Michael the organiser at m.warrior@btinternet.com. Alternatively just turn up - you will be made very welcome. It would be great to get a few people along as these events combine running with exploration of the countryside ... and a bit of social drinking thrown in afterwards. What more could you wish for?
