Southern Road Relays – Rushmoor Arena – Sept 25th – Mike Harper
Against the top runners from as far afield as Cornwall and Norwich, only the Stub Men over 50’s were up to the challenge!
We did of course all want to be on the notoriously fast first leg, well except for Tim, who was pushed to get there on time!
It was sunny and warm, though a gusty breeze helped cool us a bit.
So, it was Mike White who led us off, and as usual produced a superb run to come in 4th team out of 22 teams of over 50’s.
Taking over in 4th place was a tough task for me, but I was pleased with my time even though we dropped 3 places to 7th, as the strong London clubs began to dominate.
I handed onto Phil, who only qualified for this age group a week earlier! In his first regional relay, Phil did really well, and handed over to Tim in 10th.
Tim, having arrived earlier than anticipated, had longer than us to warm up, and consequently ran well to hold onto 10th place for Stubbington.
Of the 9 clubs ahead of us, 6 were from London, and only Bronze medallists Aldershot Farnham & District were from Hampshire.
There was encouraging support from Sarah and Hannah and Mike Clarke, and though we didn’t have the fastest over 50 runner, at least we had the best looking :)
