Test Way Relay 2010

Test Way Relay

We were fortunate to have four teams in this very popular relay, so not only did we have other Clubs to race, but our own inter Club rivalry!

In the Club races we did well, especially our mixed teams who finished 2nd and 6th. Our Ladies were 6th and our Men 7th.

With 36 runners I can only mention briefly some notable performances, but speaking to many of the runners during the day and again at the finish, it's fair to say everyone had a great day and most are already looking forward to next year.

There were some fantastic performances by our runners, but firstly and most importantly a massive thank you to JULIE ASHMAN and JOHN EXLEY who both stepped in very late to ensure we had complete teams.

Firstly our ladies team, who fluctuated all day between 5th, 6th and 7th place. I believe all the ladies except possibly Jane were new to the Test way, it was a close call between ourselves, Romsey and Halterworth, and a couple of decent runs at the end by Julia H and Jane got us back past Halterworth. Our two fastest ladies on the day were Donna and Julia P who both recorded excellent 3rd fastest legs of the day.

With 15 Men's teams competing, our team only had two guys under 50, so 7th place was a great effort! We started off at 5th before working our way down to 9th until an inspirational run from Phil May on the last leg gained two places to bring us home in 7th. Great to see Dave King again down from the far reaches of Wiltshire, although the top performance must surely go to Nick Crane, who on leg 2 outran our Chairman by all of 5 seconds! Loved to have seen Chris's face!

We had two mixed teams, both off to strong starts with Rachael 4th and Georgie 5th. Georgie's team then stayed constant throughout the day fluctuating only between 6th or 7th. Again many of this team hadn't run the relay before. Top performers here were Nigel who had the 5th fastest time and Lucy who despite being overtaken by her Dad on the last leg in controversial circumstances, recorded the 4th fastest mixed team time of the day!

It was a close run thing for our other mixed team. Close between ourselves and defending Champions Totton and Eastleigh. An outstanding run from Andy Simpson on leg 3, who as many of you will know is struggling with knee problems, brought us into contention and 2nd place. This was maintained by Penny, who not only ran a few minutes quicker than a few years ago, but had the 2nd fastest leg, only beaten by a Winchester man. Annie held 2nd place before handing to Mark who recorded our only fastest leg of the day, Dave held our 2nd place with a great run, Georgie did manage to hold 2nd but went off track midrun, leaving Tina only a couple of minutes advantage over Hannah from Eastleigh, who is the HRRL Ladies Champion, but a superb run from Tina held our 2nd place with a minute to spare!
