National Cross Country Championships, Leeds

Dan Gueran, Andy Vernon & Lucy MayAndy Vernon and Steph Twell made it an Aldershot double at the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Former Stubby Andy made the sticky course look easy as he powered ahead of Mourmin Gleele to win by just on 10 secs.

Following close behind in 561st place was Dan Gueran having a storming run to lead home the Stubby team, in supporting roles Gordon Westley 1147th closely followed by John Gueran in 1154th and acting as sweeper for the team today Phil May in 1230th.

For those ex Fareham members Paul Gibbons is getting back to his former form running for Trentham RC and finishing in 429th.

In the Women’s race Lucy May was our only contender and she had a steady run with nothing to really run for except experience and finished in a 406th just behind Charlotte Phillips who Lucy has been competing against all season in the Hampshire League.

Roundhay course was a beautiful cross country course with hills, sticky mud and a difficult run to the finish after a punishing last hill of 100 metres to take any thoughts of sprinting for the finish out of the legs.

I’d also like to thank one of the Leeds City runners for the encouraging comments after he’d finished his race to us poor souls who still had a lap to go!!
