Target setting by Mr Chalk (and his tutor group)

Thumbs Up!

I always rave about SMART targets to my pupils at school and how they can motivate and bring rewards. So why did it take me 18months of running to do the same for myself???

I therefore promised my tutor group I would write an article for my running club about being SMART and how it can help......

Something that has really helped me focus my training and running but also move forward since the New York Marathon was to set myself some SMART targets.......After New York I had nothing to work towards or so I thought. I sat down and considered the reasons why I got into running and then the reasons why I am now continuing. (Cheers Georgie G for making me focus!)

Everyone will have different targets and the most important thing is that you own your targets, no one else! One area I do encourage is for you to write the targets down and share them. This allows you to express and agree them out loud and feel proud of what you are aiming to achieve! You can also get advice and support on how to achieve them plus the needed encouragement to keep motivated!

So you have read this far – how about you now visit the Stubby Forum and set your own SMART targets! http://www.sgrac.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

Mr Chalk and his tutor define SMART Targets as; “A target you own and set which motivates. You define the target to suit your needs, and this ensures it will work!”

So your target has to be SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, AGREED, REALISTIC and should be given a TIME SCALE.

I have set myself 2 targets using this concept and this has been great motivation for the cold evenings recently! Give it a go yourself......

Good luck!
