Keith Davies
Very sadly Keith Davies passed away on 28th October after a long illness.
He had only just joined SGRAC from Havant AC and was a long time running companion and very good friend of Mike White.
Keith started running in 2000 after visiting London with his wife on the day of the Marathon, he got inspired and ended up running the London Marathon each year for 9 years until illness prevented it this year. His best marathon time was an impressive 2hr 48min 59sec in 2006, but arguably it was in Ultra-distance running that Keith truly made his mark and the pinnacle of his achievements here was the unbelievably tough 100mile Cesar’s Camp race where in 2007 he won the event in a time of 21hrs and 29min which is a course record that still stands. This race includes 1500ft of total climb on each 10ml lap or a total of 15,000ft of climb for the 100mls.
Those who knew Keith will always remember his incredible endurance and his friendship and when the going gets tough we’ll imagine what Keith would have done and just get on with it.
(The picture is of Keith at the Meon Valley Plod in 2007).
Mike White.
