Isle of Wight Fell Races
Six Stubbies travelled over to Ventnor on the Isle of Wight for their Fell Running Series. This consisted of three races, the Saturday consisted of St. Boniface 3 mile race in the morning with 775 feet of climbing. After a quick cool down in the sea it was the very tough 7 mile Ventnor Horseshoe in the afternoon with 1500 feet climb.
At the end of the first day Zippy was third V40 overall but had the two runners ahead of him in his sights for day two. I was ahead of Daniel Gueran after the first two races but he looked a lot fresher than me and I wasn't looking forward to the next morning. At least I had beaten Nick Crane who travelled over for the Ventnor Horseshoe in the afternoon.
The Wroxall Round on the Sunday morning consisted of 13 miles with 1500 feet of climbing. Zippy went off very conservatively as he was worried about the Achilles problem that has plagued him for the last year, I went off quickly with the intention of blowing Daniel away.
Daniel's dad John and John Exley started day two with only a few points between them and were neck and neck for most of the race with John Gueran just beating Exley but losing overall by 2 points. I blew up after 6 miles and was taken by Daniel who looked as fresh as a daisy.
Zippy ran his usual strong second half to a race and beat the two Vets in front of him for first V40, this was a remarkable achievement considering his injuries. Chris Hall.
