Bramley 20 Mile Race – HRRL Race 7
Over twenty Stubbies headed to North Hampshire on a cold, damp Sunday morning. The course itself is two laps with just a couple of medium climbs, and although cold, there was little wind, so times were pretty good.
Our Mens team managed to hold off a resurgent Denmead team in Division 1, to record their 3rd win of the season. Led home by Lewis running close to 6 minute miles for 2 hours, with Mike White next in, again finishing with the top V50s. Completing the team were Ray and me, although Wayne was well ahead until a hip pain meant he slowed significantly in the last few miles. Tony had considered not running after a bad ankle turn midweek, but after walking over the start line and 'jogging' for a while, almost caught me and Ray! Completing the victorious B team were the consistent double act of Nick and Jon; steady 7.30 miling kept them just ahead of Susie.
The next group of Marcus, John, Robert and Neil all looked strong at the finish, although chatting to some of them after it appears that looks can be deceiving! Richard ran well with Gill and Annie, while it was good to see Eric get in well under 3 hours. Robert has run all 7 HRRL races, and he fared much better here than at Ryde, as his individual percentage was his 2nd best of the season.
Another to have run all 7 is Susie. She again led our ladies home, and to our first win of the season, to consolidate our 2nd place overall. Not far behind, Tina's training for Brighton is well on track, still going well at the end of her furthest ever run. Completing the winning Team was Gill, managing to reverse last week's placing with Richard.
It was great to see our ladies getting a B team here after just missing out at Ryde. Marathon training seems well on track as Annie, Verity and Sharon were 3rd team out of the 5 clubs that completed 2 teams. That keeps our ladies as 2nd B team in Division 1.
Four more races to go – forms are available for all these races on the HRRL website.
