Brooklands proved to be a futuristic venue for the first Brooklands 10km in 2008. The event was a bit too twisty and turny so we have redesigned it to take out a lot of the sharp bends but retained the character of the event with it's start on the historic Brabham Straight on the listed old Brooklands race circuit which then links into the super-modern circuit in front of the high tech Mercedes World building.
Mercedes have allowed us to come off the circuit onto perimeter roads this year so we don't have to squeeze 10km onto the closed circuit, but it will remain very flat and, with the exception of the short section of the old Brooklands circuit, on very smooth road surfaces

We return to Dunsfold for the 3rd Dunsfold 10km and 3km for U-15's keeping to our 1-week-before-London date.
The home of the BBC Top Gear test track, the Dunsfold route is a perfect tester for runners putting in a final hard tune up before the London Marathon or those looking for a fast flat and traffic-free route to round off the winter season.

This new duathlon was highly successful in 2009 with all 200 places taken up - for 2010 we have increased the size of the event and added a pair’s duathlon with one runner and one cyclist per team as well as the standard duathlon event.
The event will take place at 12.30pm after the Dunsfold 10km and on the same quick traffic free circuit.
The run will take in half the circuit returning down the main runway to the change over after 4.5km, the bike circuit is 3 complete laps of the 5km circuit and then change for a second run lap of 4.5k.

The revised route for 2009 will be used again for 2010, which takes out the grass section at the start and replaces the Tewkesbury By-pass section with a pretty country lane section before the village of Bredon and then finishing with just a short 200m section on the grass to finish away from traffic on the Vineyards playing field.

Salomon Technical T-shirt for all finishers in the full marathon (relay runners will be able to purchase a t-shirt).

SiS Gels and SiS Go available at drink stations at half way and 20 miles.
In just a few short years the South Downs Marathon and marathon relay have become classics on the Trail Running calander - which is not surprising when you look at the fly through video of the route.
We moved the start to Slindon College on the edge of the Downs two years ago and it was a 100% better place to start the race so we will be using the College again for the start in 2010 with the rest of the route remaining the same.
For 2010 we will be starting with a three wave system starting 30mins apart with the first wave consisting of marathon runners who predict a finishing time of over 4.30, then the relay, then the marathon runners predicting times of under 4.30. The two marathon waves will be based on times given but so that we have a meaningful race the prize winners for the full marathon will only come from the third wave - if you think you may be a prize winner in the open category or as a Master then you must start in the last wave and ask to be changed if you are allocated the first wave.
Because of very limited parking at the start all marathon runners have the bus from the finish line car park to the start included in the entry fee.
