Stubbington Green Runners

Final RR10 Results

Susie MacGregor & Lewis Chalk‘That was the RR9 that was’

Where did it go? I don’t know about you but the 2009 RR10 series just seems to have flown by!

‘For the sake of a nail a shoes was lost, for the sake of a shoe a horse was lost, for the sake of a horse a man was lost etc.’ Substitute one badly briefed marshall which led to the unfortunate debacle at Hardley’s event at Blackfield (if you were there you’ll know what I mean) the counting number of events for this years RR10 series was reduced from the best of 6 to the best of 5.

The final RR10 event set in the green and pleasant IBM grounds at Hursley, saw another strong contingent of 36 Stubbington Greeners (26 male, 10 female).

It was a warm and balmy evening, ideal conditions to round off the summer league. The course was a three lapper of about 4.2 miles.

Again Lewis Chalk showed great consistency finishing in 8th position for the men, with Andy Simpson close behind in 12th. Our Chairman Chris Hall was 17th.

For the Ladies team Suzie Macgregor was also consistent with 5th place, Sally McGrath was 21st and Georgie Wallis 27th.

We were in great spirits afterwards and quite a few stayed behind for a bevvy in the sports pavilion bar (when they finally got a drink that is!!)

For full and comprehensive results visit the RR10 website. The first female overall was Laura Brenton of Team Southampton. Her team also won the series overall beating the previous three years winners Winchester who were second. Matt Hammerton of Romsey, was a most worthy winner for the men overall, Southampton Running Club won the men’s team for the fourth season running.

Overall the average male attendance was 209 runners at each event and 126 women! Finishing our third full season in this challenging series its great to see that we’ve integrated so well into the league, and our own event at Manor Farm was very popular. We finished with a very respectable 5th place for the men’s team and 6th for the women. Unfortunately, several of our higher placed runners only competed four events so did not count overall. Had Lewis Chalk completed another event he would have finished in a very strong place overall . That position was filled by the indomitable Andy Simpson who finished 6th in the men’s league, whilst Suzie Macgregor finished a determined 8th overall for the ladies.

A great Stubbington atmosphere has pervaded at this years series, we had a total of 49 male members compete at one point or another and twenty of the fairer sex too! It was very pleasing to witness the sporting efforts of a substantial number of newer members, particularly Jaz’ Shaz’ and Saz’ for the ladies team.

Of course the great thing about the RR10, just like the Today’s Runner Cross Country series which is now looming, is that its not all about times but rather its about taking part and ‘getting round’, there is the inevitable friendly rivalry, and this years post event socials were great helped by a bit of co-ordination from Nick Kimber and his pals.

Thanks again to all who helped with the results recording this year.
And thanks to the huge band of helpers at Manor Farm for our event. I’ve sent our thanks on the Alan Tulip of Southampton Running Club who compiles the complete ongoing results after each event. See you all very soon at the Today’s Runner Series (Secretary John Tussler), the HCCL’s (Phil May) and of course the HRRL’s (Mike Harper).
