Exercise Alpine Challenge

WO2 Smith, 2lt Mason, and Capt Parker

Royal Artillery team claim winners prize
Sunday, June 28

Two days, 22 check points, 28 teams, and only one winner - 12 Regt Royal Artillery mixed team 'A' stood out as the only team to not only reach all of the check points in this year's event but also to be crowned as the only mixed team in its history to win Exercise Alpine Challenge.

And it was a personal victory for team captain Capt Parker who finally landed the top prize in his fifth year competing in the event. Defending an overnight lead 12 Regt RA picked up where they left off extending their lead over their closest rivals HQ ARRC, successfully targeting  additional challenges including a 10km cycle and canoeing 500m across a lake to round off the nearly 100km course.

Teams from RSA Larkhill walked away with the best veterans and best women's prizes while overall winners 12 Regt RA were also crowned best mixed team in the event which can trace its history back to the beginnings of the British Army's presence in Germany.

Editors note: Tony Smith, pictured on left of group has recently joined SGRAC and has just returned from Bavaria having completed and won a Tri Service Military Team Ultra Race. He has only completed one race for us so far (Alresford 10k) and will be competing in the HRRL races.
