Winter Handicap
BACK by popular demand, the Winter Handicap has returned!
Yes, Stubbington’s very own Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the great explorer Mike Clarke, has plotted another fun-filled excursion along the coast.
It takes place on Sunday, December 21st at Hill Head seafront. The finish time is 11.30am and Uncle Mike will be at the start line from 9.30am.
“I have been asked by many members to organise another club handicap, so here we go, the reading can be boring, but the route is enjoyable,” said Mike.
“If you haven’t run a club handicap before, here are the rules; there are no watches, you can start when you like, please make sure you run the correct route with no short cuts, the winner is the person who finishes closest to the finish time.”
- The route starts inside the nature reserve at Hill Head at the far corner opposite the beach huts.
- Run up the river, when you get to the bridge turn left into the field. Follow the path up the hill, continue along the path past the house on your right. Go over the stile. The path here is very narrow so be careful.
- At the end turn left, then go over the stile. You should now be on the road to the seafront.
- Take the first right turn, go up the hill, turn left at the footpath sign and go through the gate following the white tractor tyres.
- The path turns right. At the gate, turn right up the path, take the first left but be careful of the wooden slates. Go into the woods. Again take care if the wooden walkways are wet. When you come out of the woods, turn left and head down towards the Chilling Field.
- Go along the top of Chilling Field and at the corner leave the field. Follow the path run, turn left towards Solent Breezes, go past the entrance and continue along the path. At the corner, turn right, go past the White House.
- At the end, cross the road and go through the gate into the School of Navigation field. Follow the path round through the trees, head down to the gate, continue along the path, turn right and then left you should now be heading towards the road from Warsash.
- Cross the road and head towards the seafront, then turn left and head towards Solent Breezes. If the tide is out then run along the beach and go up the steps past the club house. Turn right and head towards Chilling Field (if the tide is in, run round the back of Solent Breezes, and into the Chilling Field, turn right and head towards the cliffs).
- Once you are in the Chilling Field, continue along the path, over the bridge, up onto the cliffs and head towards the beach huts.
- The finish line is at the end of the path. Before you go through the huts it will be clearly marked on the day.
Enjoy the run, stick to the route and don’t get lost. The winning male and female runner will receive a bottle of wine each.
