Stubbington Green Runners

Winchester 10km

Tim Sands

IT was hot and it was hilly for the final race of the Hampshire Road Race League.

The Winchester 10km took place at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Winchester and took in a rolling run around the outskirts of the city, finishing back at the leisure centre.

On a stinker of a weekend for the weather, it meant times were a little slower than normal. Stubbington's entry was depleted because of the runners who had taken part in the South Downs Way Relay the previous day.

Tim Sands was the first Sttubby home in 142nd place with a time of 43min 45sec, followed by Richard Snell in 47.30 for 229th. Gill Rose was the first of the ladies to finish in 282nd in 49.11, followed by Verity Wright and Sarah White who ran together, finishing 400th and 401st in 55.08.

The race was won by Winchester & District AC's David Knapman as the 27-year-old clocked 32.47 for the distance. Barbara Yiff, also from Winchester, won the women's race in 37.20 for 21st overall.

Stubbington's women should learn in the next couple of days whether they have done enough to earn promotion from Division 2 of the HRRL.
