Stubbington Green Runners

Today's Runner

Today's RunnerTHE Todays' Runner cross country league opened, as it always does, with a run-out at Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield.

Conditions were perfect although the course was quite muddy after the deluge of rain the day before.

Well done to Georgie Gair (U20) who led the ladies team in with a fine 1st place and to Andy Simpson our leading man in 7th place.

It was good to see Ray Gunner again who is getting over an injury. Chris Hall was also nursing a calf injury so took things steadier than normal.

Earlier this year, we won the overall trophy, and this time around we have started the season with a fourth place overall finish.

Don't forget the next event (on 30th November) has changed venue and is at Hawley Lake, Blackwater, Camberley, Surrey (details in the cross country section and below).  Quite a trip so you may want to arrange to travel in groups, so that we are as green as our name suggests.

Organisers have confirmed that the Today's Runner Roadshow will head for Pamber Forest in the New Year. The North Hampshire venue is a site of special scientific beauty and the race will be held on Sunday, January 4th at 11am.

Here are the details:

Venue: Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club invite you to Pamber Forest (grid reference SU 612 617), a beautiful 479 acre Site of Special Scientific Interest, a few miles north of Basingstoke, near Tadley off the A340. The race will be a single lap through the forest along undulating tracks and footpaths. The race will start at 11:00am; distance approx 5 miles.

Race Meet: The meeting point and race car park will be to the north of the Forest at Pamber Heath Memorial Hall (when full, for parking overflow, please park sensibly in Burney Bit or other local residential streets). There will be some hot food and catering at the end of the race at the Memorial Hall, please stay if you can, at very reasonable price (£1per head we hope).

Facilities: Toilets, limited changing, and clothing dump will be available at the Memorial Hall. At the end of the race, food will be served inside the Hall.

Directions: (From South): From M3 J6 follow A340 signs for Aldermaston. Keep on A340 until you reach the Lloyds Bank traffic lights in Tadley. Turn right for Pamber Heath and Silchester, then after 1000m turn right into Pamber Heath Road, and the Pamber Heath Memorial Hall is 400m on left.

Race Start: The start and finish will be from the open field adjacent to the Forest and accessed from Burney Bit. To reach this point, walk along Burney Bit eastwards for approx 300m from the Pamber Heath Road junction, and then turn right.

IMPORTANT: We would like to use the Forest for future races, and therefore we are under some scrutiny that we do not antagonise the locals or the regular forest users on this occasion. Therefore please display courtesy to others on the day, whenever possible, including whilst running.

In the meantime, the next race takes place at Hawley Lake near Hart on Sunday, November 30th as part of an event hosted by Hart Road Runners. Again it will be an 11am start. This is a change from the previous proposed venue at Tweezledown racecourse.

Here are the details:
Today's Runner Cross Country League
Race 2 to be held at Hawley Lake Sunday 30th Nov @ 11.00am

Hart Road Runners welcome you to the 2nd race of this season's series to be held at Hawley Lake, off Minley Road, Blackwater, Camberley, Surrey, GU17 9UD.

Hawley Lake can be reached from the M3 J4a. Take the A327/ Minley Road north heading towards Yateley/ Blackwater/ Reading/ A30 then take the next right (Ripon Road) after the Crown & Cushion Public House. Car parking is within the Hawley Lake area and will be signposted from the road. Unfortunately there are no toilets or changing facilities.

The course is under 8 km long, undulating and is mostly Heathland tracks and paths. Where possible any obstacles and hazards will be clearly marked or marshalled. Hot refreshments will be served at the Car Park, Start / Finish at the usual cost of £1. This year our catering will be very much "Alfresco", and we would recommend bringing your own seating if required.
