Taunton Marathon
BARRY HARDS had second thoughts about running the Taunton Marathon since the unexpected winter weather was so bad when he woke up last Sunday morning.
In the end, Bazza was glad he made the effort to run in the Somerset event.
“I got there in that snow storm on Sunday,” he said. “I nearly turned back at Blandford, the roads were so bad.
“Luckily the snow eased and when I got to Taunton there was more snow on my car than in the town itself.”
Barry was pleased with his run finishing ninth in a time of 2hrs 55mins 47secs, which was about eight minutes quicker than his time a year ago at this event. He was also the second Vet 45 runner.
“I will be 50 at the end of the month,” revealed Barry. “It’s a bit of a shame because if the race was in three weeks’ time, I would have been first V50 by over 13 minutes.
“In cycling I would already count as a V50, but still I will have to go back next year.”
The race was won by David Tomlin from Teignbridge Trotters in Devon in a time of 2:40.24, while the leading lady was Joanna Carritt from Highgate Harriers who clocked 2:57.59.
