Superheroes 5

Superheroes 5

FANCY being a superhero? Well, here’s your chance to try by taking part in the Superheroes 5 this coming Saturday, 4th July.

The charity five-mile race is being organised by Stubby member, Dave King, with proceeds going to Power FM’s Help A Local Child and the Hampshire Autistic Society.

It takes place on Saturday, July 5th at Itchen Valley Country Park in Allington Lane, West End, with a 2pm start.

“Last year I organised a similar race at Itchen Valley which managed to dodge the showers and raised £4,000 for charity,” said Dave. “It was a really great event with the men’s race won by Chichester’s James Baker and Karen Rushton from Southampton Running Club claiming the ladies’ prize.”

This year’s race, which will be held alongside a five-mile sponsored walk taking place from 11am that day, has a fancy dress theme to it. Although Dave stressed that it’s not necessary to run as a Superhero.

“Power FM have really got involved with this one, and several of their presenters will be turning up in a Superheroes costume,” he added. “There is a fun element to the race, but equally I want as many runners to turn up on the day wearing club colours too.”

The race is run along the same course at the RR10 event, looping almost three times round Itchen Valley over a course which is a mixture of grassland and woodland. The measured distance is 4.5 miles.

The Power FM roadshow will be there along with a number of food stalls and other attractions, so if the weather holds for once, it should be a good day out.

Entry forms are available here and Runner’s World websites. Dave said that he would be glad to hear from anyone who would be happy to marshal around the course. He can be contacted on 07795-305206 or by email at: peekay63@aol.com

“I’m hoping the weather will be good because this should be a fabulous day out, a good family event,” added Dave.
