Stubbington Green Runners

Slaughterford 9

Slaughterford 9

THE Slaughterford 9 doesn't sound pleasant, but three Stubbies headed out to the wilds of west Wiltshire to take part in the event.

Organised by Chippenham Harriers, this is a nine-mile multi-terrain race over steeply undulating countryside, carrying a sting in its tail.

Whilst tackling 900 feet of ascent/descent in the Slaughterford valley, runners encountered tarmac, stony paths, fields, tracks and green lanes.

Ian Smith was the first of the Greens to make it home. He finished 159th in a time of 1hr 18min 44sec for 55th in the Vet40 age group. Graham Watts followed in 270th with 1:34.16 and wife Caroline was 339th in 1:53.47.

A total of 346 runners finished the event which was won by Tom Room from the University of Bath in a time of 54.50 and Joanna Clayton from Team Bath AC was the leading lady in 38th place with 1:05.47.
