Stubbington 10k preview
THE Stubbington 10k is just under two months away and we need about 100 people on the day to make the race work.
About 75 marshals will be required for the course itself with the remainder employed in and around the start/finish area.
As well as out on the course there is a need for help in:
· The baggage area
· Car parking
· Two drinks stations (mid course and at the finish)
· Giving the famous mugs to finishers
· Setting up and taking down the start/finish areas
· Time takers at the finish
· Registration for the fun run
If any of these roles take your fancy or you would like a particular position on the course, please let either Gary Littlecott of Paul Hammond know.
Chief marshal, Paul Hammond, said: “Please don’t leave it until January to volunteer. We need to know as soon as possible that we have the required amount of people. In the worst case, if there are not enough people for the day there will be no race.
As for the race itself, the January 18th event is already a sell-out with around 1600 entries accepted. Race director, Gary Littlecott, said that as usual, race plans were proving interesting.
He said: “The plans for the race are all going to schedule at present with one exception. Just when you think you have them on your side completely, good old Fareham Borough Council finds a huge box of red tape and hit you with it.
“They are suggesting that our little gathering is too large for normal approval & has to go before an executive committee on December 8th. Hopefully it will just be a formality.
“December is a very busy month for the 10k as we have to pack all the race entries into envelopes. “If you can help with this small task please drop me a line. We also have to distribute leaflets to every property on the road race route, (probably 500+), so again your help is needed.”

Finally, the race briefing meetings and the race helpers’ 10k. This year, because we have a new course and loads of road closures, the marshals’ jobs will become a lot more technical. A separate marshals’ meeting is planned to be held at The Crofton in early January. “We will contact all nominated marshals, once selected, and advise accordingly,” added Gary.
The normal race briefing meeting on the Thursday before the race (January 15th) will be held for all race personnel, with the exception of marshals’, who need not attend. Dates and times will be confirmed in December’s issue of the Green Runner.
The race helpers’ 10k will now be held on Sunday, January 4th at 10am. Please put this date in your diaries, and let’s have a big entry to christen the new course. “I will also need four marshals for this event, so offers please!” added Gary.
