Salisbury Half Marathon
THERE were firefighters everywhere for the Salisbury Half Marathon.
The race is based at the city’s fire station and the race is now in its 11th year.
Sunday’s race featured a gentle run on quiet country roads to the north of the medieval city in the picturesque River Avon valley, overlooked by the Old Sarum Hill Fort.
The undulating course had one short, sharp hill at five miles and a flat finish.
The course record stands at 71min 59sec. Chichester’s James Baker managed to break that mark with a time of 71min 31sec for a commanding victory by almost six minutes.
Taking part was Stubbington’s Gordon Westley who finished in a time of 1:43.44 for 107th overall.
Amanda Jones from Swansea Harriers led the ladies home in 15th place overall in 1:24.54 in a field of 362 runners.
