Run In The Park 10k
DAVE MARROTT can normally be found heading Stubbington’s track and field squad during the summer, but at the weekend he was enjoying a gentle run in the park.
Dave took part in Southampton Running Club’s Run In The Park, a 10km event at the Royal Victoria Country Park in Netley.
He proved he is no slouch with a sub-40 minute 10km completing the distance in 39min 37sec for 24th place.
The event was won by Belgrave Harriers’ Knut Hegvold in 32.56 and attracted a field of 340 runners on a perfect running day with bright, sunny conditions alongside Southampton Water.
Stubbington were able to field three men’s teams who placed sixth, tenth and 15th on the day. Jon Leigh, now back racing after the injury which forced him to miss the London Marathon, was 39th in 41.17 (Vet 40, 9th), followed by Tim Sands and Mike Tinney in 58th and 59th places. Tim clocked 42.50 (Vet 50, 6th) and Mike was not far behind in 43.04 (Vet 40, 14th).
The women’s race was won by Southampton Running Club’s Karen Rushton in a time of 38.01 for 18th overall.
For Stubbington, Amanda Jones and Julie Woodman ran together and crossed the finish line in 52.18 for 47th and 48th positions.
