RR10, Itchen Valley
TALENTED teenager Georgie Gair was back in Stubbington colours for the sixth round of the RR10 summer cross country series.
The 16-year-old missed the previous race at Itchen Valley Country Park, but she was in the thick of things to finish sixth at Blackfield on the edge of the New Forest.
Running over a 4.5-mile course around the Cadlands Estate, Georgie finished just ahead of Stubbington team-mate Susie MacGregor who was eighth.
With Lucy Simmons and Lou James both taking the evening off, it was left to Penny Forse to count as the third and final scorer in 17th place.
With three-quarters of the season run, Susie is Stubbington’s best placed female from five counting races to lie third overall with Penny holding seventh spot.
The ladies race, which featured 127 runners, was won by Southampton Running Club’s Amy Campbell to leave the Stubbettes fourth on the night and second overall behind Winchester & District AC.
In the men’s race, Mark Le Gassick also took the evening off, so Andy Simpson took on the mantle of Stubbington’s leading runner with eighth place on the evening – his best finish of the summer from three races.
Graham Bell also scored his best RR10 run of the campaign with 16th, and it was then down to some excellent top order packing from Darrell Milner (35th), Mike Harper (36th), and Graham James (37th) which allowed the men to finish fifth on the day and seventh overall from seven races.
A total of 163 men completed the race in dry conditions.
