RR10 - Lordswood

RR10

THE RR10 series heads to a new venue this week, with the penultimate race in the series taking place at Lordswood near Southampton.

Organised by Lordshill Road runners, the August 6th race starts at 7.30pm.

The race starts within the woods off Sandpiper Road in Lordswood and consists of a two-lap run on a 4.8-mile course. It will be an undulating route on woodland gravel and clay tracks.

Organisers warn of some tree roots along the way and some uneven going. Depending on the weather conditions, the running surface could be soft in places, so off-road shoes are recommended.

However, the chief concern for Wednesday’s event is car parking. Lordshill Road Runners say:

“We will have difficulties accommodating the number of cars that have been arriving at these events. Please car share as much as possible. Please consider arranging to meet in Sainsburys (Lordshill) car park and then car share to the race.

“We have kind permission of nearby Oakwood Junior School (in Sandpiper Road) to use their playgrounds for parking.

“Please respect this permission by leaving as found.

“There will be additional parking in Sandpiper Road, Woburn Road and Dunvegan Drive.”

For Stubbies it will be a chance to improve on their own performances during the summer and to put in six counting races for the individual standings. The ladies have a battle of their own, lying second in the team rankings with Southampton Running Club breathing down their necks.

Two good performances at Lordswood and then the finale at IBM Hursley Park on August 20th could see a prestigious runners-up tag for the Stubbettes.
