Stubbington Green Runners

Overton 5

Mark Le Gassick & Susie MacGregor

THE Overton 5 usually attracts sparkling sunshine and summer weather. Sadly, the first race of the Hampshire Road Race League season was overcast and damp, though the showers decided to skip the race itself.

New men’s captain, Mark Le Gassick, served notice that he intends to lead from the front this season with a sparkling fourth place in a high-quality field.

Le Gas clocked 26min 14sec (PB), running at 5 minute 14 second a mile pace, to finish under a couple of minutes down on race winner, Toby Lambert (Winchester & District AC), who won in 24.31 – race pace of 4min 54sec per mile, and more than a minute ahead of the next runner!

Mike Harper in 53rd was the next Stubby home in 30.42, followed by 69th placed Chris Hall with 31.28. Graham Bell in 86th (32.05) and Nick Kimber in 122nd (33.41) completed the scoring for the men’s A team.

Susie MacGregor, Stubbington’s top lady runner in the HRRL last season, was the highest placed Stubbette in 132nd place overall with a personal best time of 33.56, or a mile at every 6min 47sec, and 11th female on the day.

Margie Pritchard also had a blistering run to come home in a personal best time of  37.53 for 230th overall and 31st lady.
