Stubbington Green Runners

Southern Masters Cross Country Championships

Penny ForseRUISLIP is known for three things - it was home for an infamous Cold War spy scandal in the 1960s, Leslie Thomas wrote the book "Tropic of Ruislip" with some reference to wife swapping, and Stubbington Green Runners' very disturbed editor of the Green Runner grew up in this west London suburb.

Well now we can add a fourth accolade to Ruislip's raucous reputation - it was where Penny Forse won the Vet 55 title at the Southern Masters Cross Country Championships.

Some may argue how on earth does Penny qualify as a Vet 55, surely there must be some mistake, but fair play to her as she romped through the muddy 6km course to win her age group in a time of 25min 25sec, and 23rd overall.

"It was a nice two-lap course with a couple of medium hills per lap," said Penny. "A bit muddy, but by recent Today's Runner standards it was fairly dry.

"We wore our age category on our backs so it was easy to see where my immediate rivals were. "Unfortunately I was the only Stubby there due to the Ryde race today but I travelled up with some Portsmouth runners who were good company."
