Lordshill 10km
IT’S not every day that the bike leading the field picks up a puncture on the course - but that’s what happened at the Lordshill 10km on Sunday.
Fortunately, race leader Andy Morgan-Lee (Southampton Running Club) was familiar with the course around Lordshill and Redbridge, and so safely made him home to win the popular race in a time of 32min 29sec, just ahead of Chichester Runners’ James Baker in 32.46.
A sprinkling of Stubbies headed out to Southampton for the race, which is organised by Lordshill Runners, and which was graced by excellent weather.
Susie McGregor was the Stubbie star of the day with second place in the ladies race with a time of 41.31 and 26th place overall. Susie won the Vet 35 age group in a women’s race which was won by Emma Dews from the Wimbledon Windmilers in 37.51 for fifth overall.
Margie Pritchard was 12th in the women’s race with 48.24 (V35, 5th) followed by Holly Bayliss in 58.01 and Jane Adlard in 63rd (V35, 26th) with a time of 1hr 00min 37sec. The Stubbettes finished in fourth place in the team event behind winners Southampton Running Club.
Darrell Milner continued an excellent season on the road with 18th place in 40.19 (V40, 5th). Jon Leigh followed in 28th place with 41.35 (V40, 7th), and Nick Kimber was 37th in a time of 43.16 (V50, 6th).
Gary Littlecott, who has been enjoying a few spills on his bike of late, managed to escape unscathed in his running shoes with 121st in 52.08 (V40, 40th), and John Blake checked in with 134th place in 53.19.
A total of 275 runners took part with Southampton RC completing a team double in the men’s competition where Stubbington finished seventh..
