LEWIS BANNER came agonisingly close to breaking the magic two minute barrier when competing at the Woking Young Athletes’ Track & Field meeting in Surrey.

Lewis, who is a first year under-20 runner, finished sixth in the race at the weekend with a time of 2min 1.72sec.

“Although the time was close to his best, Lewis was frustrated not to break the two minute barrier after going through the bell in 62 sec in a very tactical race,” explained coach, Penny Forse.

“He is one of the youngest runners in this three year age group and has learnt much from this experience.

“Lewis has been plagued with a foot ligament injury throughout the track season which has hindered his progress in the 800m, so it augers well for him to dip under 2 minutes next season following a good winter of strength and conditioning work.”
