Stubbington Green Runners

HXCL Preview

HXCL PreviewA BUSY weekend of running beckons with the Hampshire Cross Country League getting under way, nestled alongside the second round of the Hampshire Road Race League.

On Saturday, October 11th, Farley Mount near Winchester plays the traditional host to the start of the cross country season. Stubbington’s runners will be taking their place alongside newcomers Wimborne AC, City of Salisbury ARC and Portsmouth University for the five race series.

New cross country captain, Phil May is hoping for a strong turn-out of runners for the race which features a 6km run for ladies at 1.35pm and the men set out on a 10km course at 2.30pm.

It is one of the most challenging courses of the season, organised by Winchester & District AC who will be providing directional signs to the course.

Runners are asked to follow parking directions, and to expect to pay a £1 parking fee to offset some of the cost.

Please be aware the police may take action on cars parked incorrectly.

Then on Sunday, it is the turn of the Hampshire Road Race League with the Solent Half Marathon based at Gangwarily Leisure Center near Fawley. The 13-mile run, which is organised by Hardley Runners takes place at 10.30am. Unfortunately, there are no entries on the day, but it is hoped there will be a good turn-out of Stubbies for this picturesque half marathon which runs through the New Forest, down to Lepe Beach, with a challenging hilly final three miles back to Gangwarily.

The ladies, after a promising start in last month’s opener at Overton, will be hoping to build on that performance as the new kids on the block in Division 1.
