Houghton 11km Trail Run
THE Houghton 11km Trail Run is one of the less heralded races in Hampshire, but maybe this is one you could add to your list.
The race takes place on Sunday, April 27th at Houghton near Stockbridge. Organiser, Fiona Evans explains: "The route is approx 7½ miles, mainly off-road and the terrain is pretty good with only a couple of areas where it is a bit rutted or with roots.
"There is a slow uphill drag for the first mile and another one at around 3 miles. The rest is plain sailing and takes in the Test Way and part of The Clarendon Way. There is a stunning section of bluebells at around 4 miles.
"There is also a shorter route (2 ½ miles) and two cycle routes. The cyclists go off before the runners and take a different course so there is no clashing! Walkers will start behind the runners.
"There is parking and changing. There are two toilets at the village hall (and plenty of bushes along the route!).
"We organised this for the first time last year and it got the thumbs up! Ten Romsey Road Runners took part and have vowed to bring more this year.
"We hope that you will be able to come along and help to get this event on its feet and established in runners' diaries as an annual 'must do'."
