STUBBINGTON'S men are facing a fight against relegation after a tough race at Overton for the third round of the Hampshire Cross Country League.
With two teams facing the drop from Division 1, the Greens lie ninth from 10 with 28pts, as Overton Harriers occupy the basement on 29pts. The nearest rivals are eighth-placed Reading Roadrunners who have 23pts.
Winchester & District AC's Toby Lambert won the Overton race by 16 seconds from Aldershot, Farnham & District's Ben Moreau.
Most of Stubbington's big guns were missing the North Hampshire race. Therefore it was left to Dan Gueran to be the first Stubby home in 61st place overall, finishing 13th in the under-20 race. He was followed by Mick White in 74th (Vet 17th) and Nick Crane with 145th (Vet 58th).
In the veterans' league, Stubbington lie sixth in division 2 behind leaders Eastleigh Running Club.
The women's race was won by teenager Louise Small (Aldershot, Farnham & District). Penny Forse was the first Stubbette home in 53rd position (Vet 17th), followed by Margie Pritchard in 63rd (Vet 22nd) and 72nd placed Lucy May.
Stubbington's women came 13th overall on the day behind winners Winchester & District AC.
