Hants XC, Farley Mount
ALL roads pointed to the hills around Winchester for the first round of the Hampshire Cross Country League.
Farley Mount on a bright, sunny and warm day was the destination for the races, which were organised by Winchester & District AC.
Andy Simpson led the home the team with a good performance in 67th. Mike White, a recent acquisition from Havant, also put in a good run to stay within sight of Andy and when the other cross country regulars return to the fold after missing the opener because of other race commitments; the club should be quite strong in the league this year.
Chris Hall (106th) and Graham James (128th) followed up before a good group of John Exley (182nd), John Gueran (183rd) and Gordon Westley (184th) coming in next with Mike Bell (194th) and cross country captain Phil May (197th) having solid runs on the three lap course. Dan Gueran (245th) and Ash Lovell (246th) brought up the rear.
Sadly Margie Pritchard was our only participant in the ladies’ race with four of our ladies injured or away. Margie came home in 96th place. Phil May said he will be looking for more support for the ladies team for the next race at Goodwood on November 8th.
Phil said: “Don’t forget that these races are an extension to the RR10 races with the same people from the same teams in competition.”
