THE Ferndown Tri Fest in Dorset attracted a fair sprinkling of Stubbies as triathlon seems to be gaining pace at the club.

The event featured a 400m swim, an 11.5 mile bike ride and then a 5km run; an attractive set of distances to Stubbies new to the triathlon scene.

Glen Street was the first Stubby home in 1hr 16min 11sec, followed less than 10 minutes later by Mark Dyer in 1:25.36.

Julie Ashman was the first of the Stubbettes to cross the finish line in 1:31.56, followed little more than a minute later by Caroline Street in 1:33.05, with Tracie Jarvis not too far adrift in 1:37.23 and Jane Butler eased home in 1:40.19.

There were also a couple of junior triathlons. In the Tristar 1 event for 9 to 10 year-old youngsters, Callum Jarvis completed the 150m swim, 1500m bike and 1000m run in a time of 22min 6 sec. While Matthew Ashman, competing in Tristar 2 for 11 to 12 years, finished the 200m swim, 2800m bike and 1200m run in 22.57.
