Eastleigh 10km
TONY Allen made a welcome return to the Hampshire Road Race League by leading the Stubbington contingent home in the Eastleigh 10km road race.
Terrific Tone finished 31st in a highly competitive race which started and finished at Fleming Park. Such was the quality of the event that Winchester & District’s Toby Lambert, who has been the outstanding road runner in Hampshire this season, was forced to settle for second place behind Stroud & District AC’s Dan Robinson who won in 30min 17sec, to Toby’s 30.52.
Tony clocked 33.49 for a superb 31st place followed by team-mate Zippy Grice in 36th with 34.11 and the Stubbington doctor, Richard Thomas, whose 37.31 earned him 86th. Mike Harper grabbed a top 100 place with 95th in 37.50, and Darrell Milner, an early contender for most improved runner of the year, was the team’s fifth and final scorer in 101st with 38 minutes on the nail.
Lucy Simmons led the ladies home in a time of 41.46 and 20th lady, followed by Susie MacGregor who was 247th overall with a time of 42.02 for 23rd lady.
The ladies race won by British international Natalie Harvey (South London Harriers) who was 23rd overall in 33.30.
Louise James was the next Stubby lady to finish in 394th with 45.13, followed by Mariani Wallis in 677th with 49.46. A total of 1,372 runners took part.
