Duck Pond Waddle

Zippy Grice

ZIPPY Grice's domination of the Duck Pond Waddle came to an end this weekend.

For the past three years, Zippy has won the nine-mile cross country race staged in Worthing.

Predictably, the man to break the streak was Chichester's James Baker. Seven years Zippy's junior, Baker led home the field of 249 runners with a winning time of 52min 51sec. The Stubbington runner was two minutes behind Baker with 54:52 - faster than his winning time a year ago of 55:47.

Twelve months ago Stubbington provided a 1-2-3 at the Duck Pond Waddle, with Andy Simpson second and Alasdair Ewing in third. Alasdair chose to put his feet up this year, as Andy came home in 11th place in 59.45. Chris Hall followed in 17th with 1hr 1min 37sec, with Nick Crane in 46th (1:09.49) and Andy Lee in 108th (1:20.47).
