Dublin Marathon
THE Dublin Marathon proved a tough battle for Stubbies Verity Wright and Sarah White.
The duo struggled early on in cold but sunny conditions as they joined a record field of 11,700 runners around the streets of the Irish capital.
Andriy Naumov of the Ukraine has won the race in a time of 2hrs 11min 6sec while Larissa Zousko from Russia, who was second last year, won the women’s event with a time of 2:29:55.
The two Stubbettes crossed the finish line together with Sarah clocking 4:37.34 for 6,401st and Verity was officially clocked at 4:37.35 for 6,402nd.
Among those who took part was Limerick man, Simon Baker, who was attempting to set a new world record for the fastest marathon on crutches.
He lost his right leg below the knee four years ago and when his prosthetic limb got damaged during training he decided to do the marathon on crutches.
The 41-year-old was given a rapturous welcome home when he finished in 6hrs 47mins, smashing the record by 26 minutes.
