D-Day 10km

D-Day 10km

NORMALLY there is a fierce wind or driving rain to dog the D-Day 10km, but for once conditions were nice and calm for this annual two-lap, traffic-free race around Hilsea.

Seven Stubbies took part in the event which started and finished inside the stadium at Alexandra Park and which, as usual, attracted a strong elite field of runners.

Chichester Runners’ James Baker won the race in a time of 32min 19sec to lead home a field of 320 runners, while Susie Bush from Aldershot Farnham & District AC triumphed in the ladies’ event with 34.37 and ninth overall.

Darrell Milner was the first Stubby to finish. He has been running a string of races lately and has been very consistent with his times. Coming on the back of a fast but stumbly outing in Poole on Sunday, Darrell was back on home turf in Portsmouth to finish 30th in 39.03, followed by the refreshed from holiday Tim Crumpton who was 50th in 40.35, and the always on holiday Nick Kimber, who was 63rd with 41.32. The men finished 10th in the team standings behind winners Bournemouth AC, with the vets coming fourth.

Georgie Gair, running in City of Portsmouth AC colours, was seventh in the ladies’ race with 41.22.
