Stubbington Green Runners

Chris Haskell Report

Chris Haskell

APRIL is here and ladies captain, Chris Haskell, offers her reflections on a highly successful winter for the women, looks forward to the marathon weekends and the RR10s.
Here's Chris's report:

"Well I have finally got back to running , albeit at snails pace, after six months of injury enforced rest.  How great it feels and how good to see everyone plus a lot of new faces at both the Whiteley and Stubbington sessions.  I have yet to become familiar with all your names so if  I get it wrong please forgive me.

"I hope to see some of you competing in our summer RR10 series of cross country races, which take place on Wednesday evenings beginning in April at various venues throughout Hampshire.  If you are interested please ask for details.  You don’t have to be fast and everyone scores for the team regardless of position.  If you haven’t raced before it is a great intro and is also a good stamina training session too.

"Congratulations to all those ladies who took part in the Today's Runner XC series.  A great turn out on the last race at Staunton Park ensured Stubbington’s place at the top of the league. Well done everyone who took part.

"This years Hampshire Road Race League is looking very good for Stubbington ladies who are lying in 2nd place in Division 2  (20 points) closely followed by Eastleigh (23 points) and have four ladies in the top 20 individual results position!! Susie MacGregor  is currently  second place overall. She is being kept company by Lucy Simmons 9th,   Lou James 12th, Bev Lavery 20th.  With Gill Rose in 86th position I think the club can be very proud  to have such  ‘stars’. If we can maintain a good turn out at Totton 10k, Alton 10m and Winchester 10k over the next three months then there is a every chance we can gain promotion to Div 1.

So come on girls do your bit and sign up for the last three races.

"Congratulations also go to the Ladies team of  Lucy Simmons,  Susie MacGregor and Lou James who got the 3rd place team at Eastleigh 10k. There was some confusion on the day so your medals are still in transit girls.  Well done also to Mariani Wallis, Karen Dean, Helen Grice, Jane Butler and Anne Fairhurst who also took part on a cold and blustery  day.

"In case I don’t get to see everyone before the big day  I want to send best wishes to all the Stubbington entrants in the Paris and London Marathons (not just the ladies but the laddies too) and hope they all have a brilliant time.  I will be in London cheering on Liz Hall, who is running with a club place in London and will keep a look out at Tower Bridge for any other Stubbies too.  Good Luck everyone."
